Repairing Damaged Circuit Boards
Accidents happen, and a cracked board does not always mean the component is dead.
Trace Repair Using Wire
- Identify the break in the copper trace using a multimeter in continuity mode.
- Scrape away the solder mask from both sides of the break to expose the bare copper.
- Solder a thin insulated wire bridge between the two exposed points to reconnect the circuit.
Component Replacement
- Heat the pins of the damaged component gently to avoid lifting them off the pad.
- Apply fresh flux to the pads before soldering new components for better conductivity.
- Use a magnifying lamp to inspect the work for cold joints or solder bridges.
Precision is key when performing micro-level repairs on sensitive electronics.
